Before I talk about last week’s training I have to acknowledge a momentous event.
On August 29, 2010 I wrote the first post on this blog. I declared my decision to finish out my second year teaching and return to school for my Masters degree in History. It seemed so far away.
Today I walked back onto campus and into the main class building for the first time since May 5, 2007 when I pinned the honors ribbon to my robes for graduation. Talk about weird.
My life has changed so much in the past year and I know that more change is on the way. (One look at my Masters Thesis Handbook is enough to tell me that.) I’m so excited though and can’t wait to start school again.
I know that my training will be affected by my school schedule but I’ll talk about that in the next few weeks. Here’s how last week went down.
Monday: 4 miles easy — the first 2 miles were tough but I took a break midway to tie my shoe and consume a mocha Gu which helped me bang out the last 2 miles with some pretty good speed.
Tuesday: pump class — this was the best pump class ever with the best playlist ever; I pushed my muscles to the limit and worked up a sweat.
Wednesday: 3 x 1600 w/800 jogs changed to 6 x 800 w/400 jobs — I’m so glad I changed this. I’m not sure why but a mile doesn’t seem like an interval to me. I changed it to shorter and felt really strong.
Thursday: 5:45 pump class — I’m so over the 5:30am pump class and decided ahead of time to go to the 45 minute late afternoon class. My muscles were still sore from Tuesday but I loved the pace. I can’t wait to go again.
Friday: bike @ gym changed to rest — My schedule called for cycling but since I was still sore I wanted to make sure I would be able to get a good long run in I took a rest day.
Saturday: This was a really good run which I recapped here.
Sunday: rest or yoga — I took another rest day simply because of logistics. I wanted to enjoy the 1.5 hours I had in between lunch with the grandparents and the evening service.
An awesome week of training, no doubt. I know for a fact that I would not have dreamed of training for a marathon. Funny how much things change in a year.
Here’s what’s on the schedule for next week:
Mon: 4 miles easy
Tue: strength training (this one’s tricky since I can’t go to pump class)
Wed: 6 miles with 4 tempo
Thu: 5:45pm 45 min pump class
Fri: bike @ gym following previous plan
Sat: 16 miles long (redemption!)
Sun: rest or yoga
